Google Maps Ranking Tips for Small Businesses

We have put together a list of how to rank higher in Google Maps in 2022.  It doesn't matter if you have a physical business or just offer services, you can appear in Google map search results.  Getting listed on the first page of local search results is easier thanks to Google maps appearing at the top.

It is necessary to meet the following criteria in order to rank higher on Google Maps (2022):

The Google My Business page should be set up properly - make sure the information is correct. Your listing doesn't need to be claimed by another business or goof up your phone number (I have seen this happen before).

  • Learn where your searchers are located - the closer they are, the better.
  • Enter the code you receive from Google to verify your listing
  • Your listing should be in the right category (Google only lists a limited number of categories - choose the closest one to your business)
  • You may want to include your business category in the name of your business listing
  • Include your phone number, website, and business hours

A business description should include a category word and city, similar helpful keywords, along with photos, which need to be updated once in a while. It is really helpful if you include as much information as possible!

Make sure your photos are geotagged! Your location will be given extra points if you do this. (Name your images with your business name and city!)

  • Use Sirkle to create blogs and post them frequently to show you are active with fresh offers and news – lasts for one week. Remember, consistency is key.
  • Connect with your customers via the Sirkle app
  • As many 5-star * reviews as you can get - it won't make a huge difference in your ranking, but it will look odd if you aren't in the top five...
  • Convert your website to a mobile-friendly version! Sirkle can help you with that.
  • Include the city and address of your business on your website
  • Make sure you include your keywords elsewhere on your website as well!
  • Provide your keyword in a YouTube video

Google My Business maps should be embedded in location pages and web properties. Some may find this a little advanced.

  • Increase the number of backlinks to your Google My Business share link.
  • Answer questions in a timely manner
  • Flag spam reviews on Google My Business in order to maintain your star rating
  • Include driving directions in your footer.

Your website should contain a schema that tells Google exactly where you are located.

Publishing articles about your city on your site helps a great deal!

Consistent NAPs online are important! An example would be (Name, Address, Phone number). Rd. is recommended to be used instead of Road.

Ideally, you would rank in Google maps and below in the search engine results pages. (Search engine results page)

It's basically another way of getting on the first page of Google if you rank high on Google maps!

Google Maps Rankings: How to Get More Visitors

Step 1: Verify your Google Listing

If you haven't already, you should have claimed your Google+ listing and verified it with Google sending you a postcard with the verification code in the mail. You can do it in a few minutes. Let's get started...

Step 2: Select the Right Keyword

It is imperative to do this. Search listings display this title. Services and cities are often searched together by people.

My target keywords are added to Hyphenet, for example. This step is what ranked me fastest at Hyphenet - San Diego Managed IT Services and IT Support. In order for this step to work, you will need to verify all the information below:

Step 3: Provide information about your business

  • Provide the hours of operation for your business
  • Your website should be listed on the search engines
  • Check your address to make sure it is correct
  • If you're using a local area code, make sure it's a local number

Check your category to make sure it's correct. In Hyphenet's case, the category is "Computer support and services."

Step 3: Keyword-rich reviews

Request a Google review from your customers. It's ideal to provide your customers with a "customer satisfaction survey" after they've completed a service you've provided. It can be as simple as checking a box and asking for their feedback on Google or Yelp. You might have a form that asks, "Mention the services we provided and your experience working with (your company). Customers are guided to use your keywords in their reviews by this. Your services should be mentioned by your customers. As a result, the search results are enhanced with valuable keywords.

Step 4: Add useful images

Photos with useful information, such as the following, are appreciated by customers:

  • The front of the building as seen from the air
  • Parking area photo
  • An interior photo of the office
  • An image of the product
  • The logo
  • Photo of employees for extra credit

Step 5: Create a Google Map and embed it into your website's homepage

As a result, your website's listing will be backed up on Google Maps and a backlink will be added.
